Microneedling

Everything you need to know

What is microneedling?

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves using a microneedling device with small, sterile needles to create tiny punctures (micro-injuries) in the skin's surface.

These micro-injuries stimulate the body's natural healing process, leading to collagen and elastin production, which helps rejuvenate and improve the appearance of the skin.

How does microneedling work?

During a microneedling session, a specialized device equipped with tiny needles is gently rolled or pressed onto the skin's surface. These needles create controlled micro-injuries that trigger the body's wound healing response.

As the skin repairs itself, it produces new collagen and elastin fibers, which enhance skin texture, firmness, and elasticity.

Additionally, microneedling creates micro-channels in the skin, allowing for better absorption of skincare products, such as serums or growth factors, applied during or after the procedure.

What are the benefits of microneedling?

Microneedling offers a range of benefits for the skin, including reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, diminishing acne scars and hyperpigmentation, treating enlarged pores, improving skin texture and tone, and enhancing overall skin quality and radiance.

Plus, since it stimulates collagen production, the results of microneedling can continue to improve over time with multiple sessions.

What are the risks of microneedling?

While microneedling is considered safe for most people, there are some potential risks and side effects to be aware of.

These may include temporary redness, swelling, bruising, or sensitivity in the treated area, which typically subside within a few days to a week.

In rare cases, more serious complications such as infection, scarring, or pigment changes may occur, but the risk of these is low when you choose a trained and experienced professional like Charlotte!

Does microneedling hurt?

Sensations during microneedling can vary from person to person, but most people report feeling only minimal discomfort.

Before starting, a topical numbing cream is typically applied to the skin to help reduce any discomfort. During the treatment, you may feel a slight tingling or prickling sensation as the microneedling pen is moved across the skin.

Quick Facts

  • Microneedling uses a pen-like device to creat controlled injury in the skin. This promotes collagen production.

  • Ideally, you need a session every 4 - 6 weeks for 6 months, followed by regular maintenance sessions.

  • It shouldn’t.

You’ll be numbed for a good amount of time before your treatment. This will make the treatment comfortable.
